When I was 13 years old my sweet grandma taught me how to crochet. I didn’t have much of an interest in it until my mother in law reintroduced me to the craft while I was on bed rest with my first baby. My little princess was welcomed to the world with a plethora of blankets and booties and hats!

That baby is now 7 years old! But, she still likes to cuddle with those baby blankets! Shh…don’t tell!

The granny square afgahn is still my very favorite! It’s simple and fun to make and there are so many possibilities with what you can do with a granny square. There are all different types of yarn and all different colors and textures to use.
You can use one color and make one solid granny square blanket. You can alternate colors. You can make many small granny squares and sew them together, like the one my princess is cuddling with in the photo above. The possibilities are endless!
After 8 years of making these I don’t have a pattern but I found this tutorial that explains it perfectly.

Also, http://www.youtube.com/ has lots of how to videos and crochet patterns. There are lots of different granny square patterns, I like the traditional one myself.

What I usually like to do is start a granny square and just keep going.

This is the blanket I made for my youngest when she was a baby. She calls it her “Luv it”.

I love the purple and green together! My sweet little niece is pretty cute too!

Right now I’m working on a “scrap blanket”. I’m saving my scraps and squares. Hopefully in the near future I’ll have a photo of  a completed granny square afgahn.
